Peptide Epitope Mapping

The immune system has a rich library of antibodies that can target almost any molecular structure. The identification of antibody-targeted epitopes (B cell epitopes) is critical to the development of many diagnostic and therapeutic tools. As specific affinity reagents, antibodies have become indispensable tools for a wide range of scientific and diagnostic applications. For clinical use, these epitopes must be extensively characterized to verify specificity and document potential cross-reactivity. The efficiency, accuracy, and safety of these antibody-mediated applications mainly depend on the antibody selected against the expected rather than against any unexpected target structure. Therefore, specificity, that is, the typical characteristics of an antibody, not only has scientific significance but also has considerable practical significance. The epitope targeted by the antibody should be identified and characterized, thereby establishing antibody reactivity, highlighting possible cross-reactivity, and possibly even warn of non-essential (autoimmune) reactivity. An important aspect of verifying antibody specificity is to determine the structure of the epitope that the antibody interacts with. Epitope mapping has become a crucial link.

Service Process

We provide comprehensive epitope location services based on addressing protein microarray technology. Just send us your protein/antibody samples, and we will perform all the necessary processes from sample analysis to data analysis. The mapping resolution of linear epitopes depends on the length of the peptide, the overlap selected for the initial epitope, and the scale of subsequent fine specificity analysis. This includes N- and C-terminal truncation, amino acid scanning, random single, double or triple substitutions, and so on. Our comprehensive epitope location services include sequence design, custom-designed synthetic peptide microarrays for epitope maps; experimental quality control, microarray hybridization, array image scanning and data extraction; data analysis. Our array services include basic data analysis (fluorescence background reduction, data aggregation and processing, and report formation).
